Sophia Busby, Sint Eustatius’ Oldest Person Ever, Dies at 106

Sophia Busby, the oldest living person in Sint Eustatius, passed away on 12 September, at the age of 106 years, 358 days. She is the oldest known person ever to have lived on Sint Eustatius, a Caribbean island and special municipality of the Netherlands.

Sophia Mary Busby-Maynard was born in Brick Kiln, Saint Kitts and Nevis, on 19 September 1919.

She was a faithful and devoted member of the Methodist Church and dedicated many years to serving the life and ministry of the Bethel Methodist Congregation. For many years, she worked at the Bethel Methodist Kindergarten, helping to nurture and care for generations of children. She was also a committed member of the Women’s League and faithfully supported the work and ministry of the Brigade as part of its support staff.
