110-year-old woman becomes latest reported death from heat due to power outages

Christine Davis died from hyperthermia on Tuesday.

HOUSTON — A 110-year-old woman died Tuesday and the medical examiner's office said it was due to the heat.
They said Christine Davis died from hyperthermia because her power went out after Hurricane Beryl moved through the Houston area last week.
She was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital Northeast, where she died.

Davis is the latest in a string of deaths due to the widespread, extended power outages across the area.
At least six other people in Harris County died from hyperthermia in the days following the storm.

Beryl is also being blamed for seven other deaths, three of which from drowning and four from falling trees and accidents during storm debris cleanup efforts.

Specific circumstances surrounding Davis' death weren't immediately known.

Rest in peace Ms Christine Davis.

Always even more sad to hear of a supercentenarian passing away, likely due to 'bad luck' or similar external factors.

She was the 56th oldest living person in the US, tied with Lois Wooten.
She was the 2 oldest living person born in Louisiana, the 5 oldest living person living in Texas.
She died at the same age (110 years, 72 days) as Jenny Lindefjeld (NOR) in 2015, Filomena Lembo (ITA) in 2013 and Takatoshi Odate (JAP) in 1997

RIP

Christine was an outstanding cook, specializing in Cajun and southern foods. She loved traveling ,reading, fishing ,eating fish, camping and outdoor activities. Her last move to Houston  from DeQuincy was in 1950. In Houston, she worked for over 20 years as live-in housekeeper  for the Thomas family ,where she helped to raise 4 boys.  (Jimmy, Stephen, Phillip and Allen)

She was married for over 20 years to the late Rurel  Davis. She was the mother of two daughters:  Nellie Pearl and Billie Marie, (Both born in DeQuincy).

When Christine moved to the southeast side of Houston, she joined Riverbrook Missionary Baptist Church , under the leadership of the late Rev. Oscar Hughes. Later when relocated to the southwest side of Houston, she joined Greater Friendship  Missionary Baptist Church, where Dr. Rev. Johnny Goff Sr. is her pastor . Presently Christine is known as Mother Davis at Greater Friendship MBC. In her honor many celebrations are  held in the “Christine Davis Fellowship Hall”.
