I’m very sad to announce that the 9th-oldest validated living person in the world, Mrs. Pearl Louise Berg (née Synenberg) - of Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California, United States - sadly passed away on 1 February 2024, aged 114 years, 123 days. She was born in Evansville, Indiana, on 1 October 1909. May she rest in peace. I am very glad to have gotten to FaceTime her in 2021.
Source: Confirmed to me privately by her son Robert. Yesterday, he emailed me saying that she was “fading fast” and that “we must be prepared for her passing.”

She was the 3rd oldest living person in the USA, 52nd oldest person in the history of the USA, 8th oldest in the history of the state of California, 2nd oldest living person in California, 135th oldest person in the history of the world, 2nd oldest person old woman in history born in the state of Indiana, oldest living person born in that state.
Of course these positions are among known people

Sad news, although we already knew her condition, her death still took us by surprise.

Although her passing had been expected given the recent news, the combination of her and the doyennes of Canada and Australia have been a massive blow to the SC community. I couldn't believe my eyes seeing the three of their death reports together.
Pearl seemed like a very lovely lady. May she Rest in Peace
