Japanese Supercentenarian Sadami Matsuoka Dies at 111

Sadami Matsuoka, the second-oldest living person in Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, died in Makubetsu on 18 October, according to the Hokkaido Shimbun.

Sadami Matsuoka (松岡 サダミ) was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, on 20 February 1914. When she was around 10 years old, she moved to Tokachi District in Hokkaido Prefecture, where she lived for the rest of her life.

The day before her 100th birthday, a birthday party was held at the day service center she had been attending since she was 87 years old. On her 100th birthday, a celebration took place at her home, and she also received a memento from Makubetsu Town. At the age of 105, she moved into a nursing home, where she lived until her passing. When asked about the secret of her longevity, she credited it to “eating every meal that is served to me with gratitude and savoring its deliciousness.”

In September 2025, she was recognized as the second-oldest person in Hokkaido, following Michi Kudō.
