Niigata Prefecture has just announced that Ms. Chiyono Eguchi (江口チヨノ) of Agano City, who was oldest person in the Prefecture, sadly passed away on April 6, 2026, at the age of 111 years, 329 days.
Ms. Eguchi was born on May 12, 1914. On September 3, 2025 following the death of 111-years-old Ms. Toyo Kondō of Sanjō City she became the oldest living person in Niigata Prefecture.
Following Ms. Eguchi's death, 110-years-old Ms. Setsuko Sakata (坂田節子) (b. 1915.12.23) of Tōkamachi City, has become the oldest living person in Niigata Prefecture.

Chiyono Eguchi, the oldest living person in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, passed away in Agano City on 6 April, at the age of 111 years, 329 days.
Chiyono Eguchi (Japanese: 江口チヨノ) was born on 12 May 1914.
On 3 September 2025, at the age of 111, she became the oldest living person in Niigata Prefecture, following the death of Toyo Kondo of Sanjo City.
Niigata Prefecture has reported that its new oldest living resident is Setsuko Sakata, a 110-year-old resident of Tōkamachi City.

She remained the oldest person in Niigata for 215 days, the shortest time since Tsubame's Anonymous, who held the position from October 17, 2024 to 2025, around 76 days.
She died at the oldest age since Anonymous died on October 17, 2024 (112 years, 7 days).
First person from Agano to be considered the oldest in Niigata.
She is the 285th oldest person in Japanese history.
