Edna Kiely, the oldest living person in the U.S. state of New Hampshire, passed away in Nashua on 4 November, at the age of 111 years, 46 days.
Edna Kiely was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on 19 September 1915, to parents Jack and Stella Serpeski, both Polish immigrants. She had five brothers, four of whom served in the United States military during World War II and the Korean War. Edna spent her early childhood in Nashua before moving to Pepperell, where she remained for the rest of her life. She was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Pepperell.
She worked as a cook for the North Middlesex Regional School District for nearly 30 years. She was also a talented and accomplished seamstress, a skill she practiced for nearly 90 years. Her sewing abilities made her well known throughout the Pepperell community, where she served generations of local families.
She married John Kiely, and they had two children, Linda and John. Edna especially enjoyed trips to the casino with her friend, often traveling there aboard the Senior Center bus.
Rest in peace.
R.I.P. Ms. Kiely.

When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."
