Romanian Woman Ioana Lungu passed away at 110

Ioana Lungu, a resident of Grozești, Mehedinți County, Romania sadly passed away on 24 May 2026, aged 110 (we have her death certificate).

Ioana Lungu was born in the village of Şuşiţa, Mehedinți County, Romania, on 7 April 1916. She was married to Ion Lungu, a war veteran who died on the front during World War II. They had three children: one daughter and two sons.

At the time of her death she was the second-oldest known living woman in Romania, after Paladia Noja, and the fourth-oldest known resident, following Ilie Ciocan, Noja, and Iosif Rus

Rest in peace.

When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."
