Mildred Bowie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on 19 January 1916, to parents Timothy Edwards and Grace Oliver. A lifelong educator, Bowie began her teaching career at St. Augustine Catholic School in New Roads and later retired from LaBarre Elementary School in LaBarre, Louisiana. Her teaching career spanned more than 30 years. Following her retirement from education, Bowie pursued a second career in real estate, working for 15 years with several firms, including Century 21. She had one son, Cyril Duhe II, who passed away in 2016.
At the moment of her death, she was the oldest (known) living person in the state of Louisiana.
