Rosa Elena Pinzón, Ecuador’s Oldest Resident, Dies at 113

Rosa Elena Pinzón, the oldest living person in Ecuador, passed away in Quito on 28 April, at the age of 113 years, 30 days.

Rosa Elena Pinzón was born in Nambacola, Gonzanamá, Loja Province, Ecuador, on 29 March 1913 (claimed 26 June). She worked as a seamstress and was married to Luis Antonio Villacres Matailo. Together, they had 12 children: Amada, Olga, Cleotilde, Dioselina, Carlos, Armando, Alfonso, Manuel, Gloria, José, Magdalena, and Rosalina.

At the age of 73, she left her home in Surunuma, a hamlet within Nambacola, and later moved to Quito.

LongeviQuest previously listed her with a birthdate of 31 May 1914, based on evidence available at the time. However, new evidence has since been discovered indicating that she was born on 29 March 1913—over a year earlier than previously believed. Her case is currently under review.

Rest in peace.

R.I.P., but not only that, she was a year older than previously believed.

R.I.P. Ms. Pinzón.

When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."

I will consider her to have been born on May 31, 1914, as her birth date in 1913 is not yet confirmed.
She is the 5th oldest person in Ecuador's history.
Since February 21, 2023, she was considered the oldest in the country (3 years, 66 days), the longest time since Maria Virginia Villegas Lascano, who was between March 28, 2016, and October 18, 2020 (4 years, 204 days), or Virginia Constante Benitez, who died in October 2020 but without a confirmed date (both were born on the same day).
She is the oldest person to die as the oldest in Ecuador since Dolores Velez Bravo, who died on October 12, 2021, at 113 years, 325 days.
She is the first person from Pichincha to be the oldest in Ecuador.
She is the 140th oldest person in South American history.
She died at the same age as... Lillie Holden F 14 Dec 1887 11 Nov 1999 111 years, 332 days USA
Jeanne Bournat F 22 Jan 1903 20 Dec 2014 111 years, 332 days FRA
She was the 69th oldest living person in the world.

@billy-robinson The 1914 date is incorrect, though.

I understand that, but she has yet to be validated by LQ.

True. Both Coyote and musicotic are affiliated with LQ. If they state the 1913 date of birth is correct, this is because they have inside information. My guess: the original birth certificate has been located (hence them claiming the 1913 birth is correct), but mid-life documentation still needs to be completed in order to fully validate Mrs Pinzón's age. In any case, you can safely assume both Coyote and musicotic know what they are talking about.

Rest in peace, Mrs Pinzón.

What I don't understand is why did they release this information publicly considering they haven't validated her yet. I'm not denying that both Coyote and musicotic are correct though, I'm just saying that her age isn't validated by LQ yet.

Because there are no doubts regarding her true age, and it's also reflected on their own website: see here. This is a case similar to any other case missing mid-life documentation, of which there are more than enough (and not just from Latin American countries, also from anywhere else in the world).

@billy-robinson There are plenty of cases that have age supporting documentation, including birth records, that are not validated because other documents are missing to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. We can be almost assured of these cases, since often the missing documentation exists or is known to exist with great certainty, but the requisite documents are often not legally accessible for privacy reasons. These cases we can confidently speak about the cases date of birth despite them not being officially validated.

Edit: I see Marco expressed this more eloquently than I did, had I scrolled further down

Yes, I understand that there is already enough evidence to believe that she was born in 1913, but it is not yet confirmed. When the change to her birth date is announced and confirmed, her position will be changed.
I hope soon.

@diego So anyone can make up a birth date for a SC, post it online, and you'll use that instead of the actual birth date with evidence for it? Where is the evidence the 1914 date was "confirmed"?

But the page itself has this information:

Her case is currently under review.
Therefore, it hasn't been confirmed. You can be sure she was born in 1913, but it hasn't left the review stage yet. I understand it's just a matter of time.
Even LQ thought she was born in 1914, and it was only recently discovered that she was born in 1913, and it's very good that this was discovered.
We are just waiting for confirmation.
