Rosa Laura Torres Barra was born in Tomé, Biobío Region, Chile, on 20 July 1913 (claimed 11 January), as one of a set of twins to parents José Santos Torres Cabrera and Ernestina Barra Soto. Her twin, Rosa Ester, was born 30 minutes after her but died at a very young age.
She worked at Bellavista Oveja Tomé Factory, dedicated to the textile industry, for more than 40 years. She never married but had two children: Sonia and Héctor, aged 83 and 76 respectively as of March 2024.
On 17 November 2024, following the passing of 112-year-old Aída Pizarro Serrano, she became the oldest (known) living person in Chile.
Her age was validated by LongeviQuest on 26 March 2024.
On 20 July 2026, she turned 113 years old. At that time, it was reported that she was bedridden and in frail condition.
As of 8 September 2026, she lives in Tomé, Biobío Region (CHL).
On July 2024 (age 111).
On her claimed 112th birthday (age 111) in January 2025.

On 14 August 2026, she became the oldest validated Chilean person ever, when she surpassed Eudocia Barria Barrientos's final age. However, Maria Mercedes Diaz Quijano and Margarita Arriagada Cancino, who are pending, are likely older than her.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the exact date of death of Ms. Torres Barra's twin sister? Having come across some cases of centenarians who outlived their twin siblings (who died in infancy) for more than a century in my investigations, I would be interested in knowing for how long Ms. Torres Barra has outlived her sister (if possible, of course). 🤔
