The UK is one of those countries whose top 10 has largely stagnated over recent years.
Looking at the oldest top 10 of countries where candidates have birthdates from 1 Jan 1900 onwards, and all are over 113.00, we can see notable disparities.
Top of the list appear to be Japan and Brazil with 7, then Italy 6. Five each for France and Spain and 4 for Canada. Europe as a single entity has 7 and the all time (global) list has 5.
Well behind these are the UK with 2 and the USA with zero.
@chrisr what do you mean?

@chrisr there are 3 people from the USA in the Top 10 oldest living people. They are Edie Ceccarelli, Elizabeth Francis, and Pearl Berg. And Ethel Caterham is the only one from the UK. Brazil only has one, Inah Cananarro Lucas, Venezuela has one, Juan Vicente Pérez Mora, Japan has 3, Fusa Tatsumi, Tomiko Itooka, and Okagi Hayashi, and Spain has one who's also our doyenne, Maria Branyas M.

I'm speaking about the "All Time Top 10 lists" for each country and the extent to which they have evolved in the past few years.
As an example, the USA top 10 comprises Sarah Knauss, Delphia Welford, Susannah Jones, Gertrude Weaver, Elizabeth Bolden, Besse Cooper, Jeralean Talley, Maggie Barnes, Dina Manfredini and Christian Mortensen.
SJ and JT were born in 1899, but there is no one from 1900 onwards.
Likewise it appears that in the UK top 10, only Ethel Lang and Ethel Caterham were born in the 1900s.
By comparison for Japan, only Misao Okawa, Tane Ikai and Jiroemon Kimura were born before 1900, hence there are 7 since.
And to take the comments on the UK top 10 a bit further, a breakdown of the birthdates of the current members shows
- 2 from the 1870s, 4 from the 1880s, 2 from the 1890s and 2 from the 1900s.
Given the huge increase in supercentenarian numbers in the past 20 years the UK top 10 has seen comparatively, much less change than others.
For example the same profile for Japan is
- 1 from the 1870s, 2 from the 1890s and 7 from the 1900s.
Similarly if you consider the UK as a contributor to the European figures, then as a whole, Europe's figures are also substantially different.
- 2 from the 1870s, 1 from the 1890s and 7 from the 1900s.

Happy 114th birthday, Ethel Caterham!
Let's hope that she continues to enjoy good health this year with many positive things and for a long time to come.
We already have 8 validated supercentenarians over 114 years of age.
Hopefully, very soon we will have our top 10 over 114 years old again.
Although I know that anything can happen in a month and a half.
Kane Tanaka (1903-2022) my favorite supercentenarian of all time.
Congratulations and Happy Birthday Ethel Caterham.
The first UK person born in the 20th century to reach this mark.
Any confirmation?
@rutzqwezex I have searched her up on the internet and nothing new has come up yet
But remember what happened with Elizabeth Francis, there was nothing for a few days, and then not only was there confirmation, but an LQ visit and multiple articles, photos, and videos
Anyways, there is a short clip of her speaking at the beginning if this video (from 2020)
I’ve noticed that there are photos of her in a wheelchair or standing. In every single photo I’ve seen of her she is sitting in a normal, stationary chair. I wonder if she is still able to walk, or was able to walk in her earlier supercentenarian years. She does look quite strong
@MrCatlord Good point. Also, on the Gerontology Wiki, the source for her 111th birthday was published 3 days afterwards.

I’m very surprised nobody found this People article on her and Tinniswood’s birthdays, the royal family even posted about it on their social media
Abbeywood Care Home in Ash Vale, the care home that Ethel Caterham resided at, closed down last month:
So where is she living then?
