It may not be a good idea to be overly optimistic, but as a Japanese fan, I hope the day will come when she is recognized as a WOP by Guinness World Records.

Coincidentally, she was born on the date (23 May) that Hama Yasukawa, another Hyogo 114-years-old SC died. She also shares her birthday with Jeralean Talley (1899 - 2015).

Cool story I found on Mrs. Itooka. In her 70s, she climbed mountains in ordinary sneakers, and without oxygen! (Elevation 3000+m) And at age 100, she had enough strength to climb all the steps of a temple in Asia!

@aquanaut_chalk pretty impressive, even though bottled oxygen is very rarely used below elevations of 7,500-8,000 metres.

Tomiko Itooka is getting really close to age 115.

People are largely focused on the possible 114th birthday of Juan Vicente Perez Mora coming up and so Tomiko Itooka turning 115 is getting less attention.

Tomiko Itooka reached 42,000 days old today.
With leaders of the G7 and several major countries coming just around 200km from where Tomiko Itooka lives, a brilliant milestone achieved while the international spotlight on Japan.

Also she surpassed the age when Fusa Tatsumi become the oldest person alive in Japan (114y, 359d) following the sad death of Kane Tanaka.

P.S. sorry for my mistake: reaching 42,000 days old is tomorrow = 20 May.

The above photos is what a historic photos including two-shot with Japan's youngest city mayor. However, the Japanese medias didn't report her birthday at all, probably just because she is not yet the "doyenne" in Japan.

Today, Tomiko Itooka, who is already becomes the oldest person to have ever lived in Hyogo prefecture, reach 115 years and 12 days, catch up Chiyono Hasegawa's final age. Now she enters top 15 oldest Japanese person ever. Congratulations Ms. Tomiko Itooka!

Itooka reach 115.5 (115 years and 183 days) on 22 November. It feels rare to think that, after 10 months passed since Lucile Randon's death, her rank has not changed - she is still the world's fourth-oldest validated living person.

Interestingly Jeanne Bot appears to have been the oldest person I can find at number 4 in the world, holding that position when she passed away at 116-128.

Significantly, Ms Itooka has made more progress in terms of Japanese supercentenarians and is now close to a place in the all time top 10.

There has now been an article published about Mrs. Itooka becoming the new doyenne of Japan. However, she currently has the flu and will be informed of the news after

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/12/13/japan/japan-oldest-person-115/

Tomiko Itooka, a 115-year-old woman in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, has become the oldest person in Japan following the death on Tuesday of the 116-year-old previous holder of the title, the health ministry said Wednesday.

Born on May 23, 1908, in Osaka, Itooka is the eldest of three siblings and belonged to a volleyball club during her student days, according to the city where she now resides.

When she first entered a nursing home in Ashiya in 2019, she was still able to move around independently, but nowadays has to be escorted in a wheelchair to take her meals in the living room, according to staff.

Itooka enjoys sweets, and one of her pleasures is drinking the probiotic beverage Calpis, the staff said.

Ashiya Mayor Ryosuke Takashima, who was elected as the youngest mayor in Japan's history at the age of 26 in April, visited to congratulate her for her birthday this year.

Itooka became the oldest living person in Japan following the death of Fusa Tatsumi, a 116-year-old in Kashiwara, Osaka Prefecture. She died on Tuesday.

But the new record-holder has yet to be informed of the news as she currently has the flu, according to her nursing home. It intends to tell her after she recovers.

It's been two months now so if the sickness is something that she still has, that would be a really bad sign. I assume the flu was just a regular sickness that she could get over in a week or too

Unfortunately there have not been any updates on her since then

She is also now the oldest living 115-year-old following Edie's birthday

https://longeviquest.com/2024/02/tomiko-itooka-1908-present-of-japan-becomes-the-worlds-second-oldest-living-person/

Looks like LQ confirmed that she is alive

Congratulations on becoming Maria's third vice-doyenne, Itooka-san

On June 9, the day after Inah's birthday, she could reach what is now Ms. Ceccarelli's final age, and on June 17 she could reach the age of Jeralean Talley and become the oldest person born on 23 May

I think Tomiko is the oldest person to not be the oldest person with her birthday
