It may not be a good idea to be overly optimistic, but as a Japanese fan, I hope the day will come when she is recognized as a WOP by Guinness World Records.

Coincidentally, she was born on the date (23 May) that Hama Yasukawa, another Hyogo 114-years-old SC died. She also shares her birthday with Jeralean Talley (1899 - 2015).

Cool story I found on Mrs. Itooka. In her 70s, she climbed mountains in ordinary sneakers, and without oxygen! (Elevation 3000+m) And at age 100, she had enough strength to climb all the steps of a temple in Asia!

@aquanaut_chalk pretty impressive, even though bottled oxygen is very rarely used below elevations of 7,500-8,000 metres.

Tomiko Itooka is getting really close to age 115.

People are largely focused on the possible 114th birthday of Juan Vicente Perez Mora coming up and so Tomiko Itooka turning 115 is getting less attention.

Tomiko Itooka reached 42,000 days old today.
With leaders of the G7 and several major countries coming just around 200km from where Tomiko Itooka lives, a brilliant milestone achieved while the international spotlight on Japan.

Also she surpassed the age when Fusa Tatsumi become the oldest person alive in Japan (114y, 359d) following the sad death of Kane Tanaka.

P.S. sorry for my mistake: reaching 42,000 days old is tomorrow = 20 May.

The above photos is what a historic photos including two-shot with Japan's youngest city mayor. However, the Japanese medias didn't report her birthday at all, probably just because she is not yet the "doyenne" in Japan.

Today, Tomiko Itooka, who is already becomes the oldest person to have ever lived in Hyogo prefecture, reach 115 years and 12 days, catch up Chiyono Hasegawa's final age. Now she enters top 15 oldest Japanese person ever. Congratulations Ms. Tomiko Itooka!

Itooka reach 115.5 (115 years and 183 days) on 22 November. It feels rare to think that, after 10 months passed since Lucile Randon's death, her rank has not changed - she is still the world's fourth-oldest validated living person.

Interestingly Jeanne Bot appears to have been the oldest person I can find at number 4 in the world, holding that position when she passed away at 116-128.

Significantly, Ms Itooka has made more progress in terms of Japanese supercentenarians and is now close to a place in the all time top 10.
