Yolanda Beltrão de Azevedo Recognized as Brazil’s Third-Oldest Person

Yolanda Beltrão de Azevedo, a resident of Maceió, Alagoas, Brazil, has been recognized as the nation’s third-oldest living resident. To mark the occasion, a commemorative plaque was presented to her. As of 28 April, at the age of 114 years, 105 days, she is the 10th-oldest validated living person in the world.

Yolanda Beltrão de Azevedo was born in Coruripe, Alagoas, Brazil, on 13 January 1911, as the first of 15 children. At some point, she got married and had four children. Throughout her years, she was a devoted housewife who dedicated her life to caring for her family.

As of April 2025, she is the third-oldest living person in Brazil whose age has been documented and validated by LongeviQuest. Currently, the oldest is 116-year-old Inah Canabarro Lucas of Rio Grande do Sul, who is also the world’s oldest living person. Meanwhile, the second-oldest is 114-year-old Izabel Rosa Pereira of Minas Gerais.

Her age was validated by LongeviQuest on 27 March 2024, becoming the first validated supercentenarian from the state of Alagoas.

Iara Souza, senior researcher for Brazil, participated in a video call arranged by Yolanda’s granddaughter. During the call, she had the opportunity to meet both Yolanda and her daughter, Sister Yolanda Maria. At that time, Yolanda was happily engaged in reading a book, one of her favorite pastimes.

On 30th April 2025, following the sad passing of Inah Canabarro Lucas, Ms. Beltrao de Azevedo became the World's 10th-oldest validated living person.

Yolanda Beltrão de Azevedo, 114, a resident of Maceió, Alagoas, has been confirmed as the oldest living person in Brazil. She is the oldest known resident in the country whose age has been thoroughly researched, documented, and fully verified.

She assumed the title on 24 September, following the passing of 114-year-old Izabel Rosa Pereira from Caputira, Minas Gerais.

Yolanda Beltrão de Azevedo was born in Coruripe, Alagoas, on 13 January 1911, as the first of 15 children. She got married and had four children: Maria Isa Beltrão de Azevedo Cavalcanti (1929–2016), João Beltrão de Azevedo (1932–2025), Irmã (Sister) Yolanda Maria Beltrão de Azevedo (17 July 1933 – present), and José Beltrão de Azevedo (died 2005). She was a devoted housewife who dedicated her life to caring for her family.

When asked about the secret to her longevity, she shared that she ate a variety of foods but avoided passion fruit juice as it caused her stomach discomfort. She also enjoyed crocheting, explaining that the activity kept her mind focused.

She has one living sister, Salete Beltrão, and one living daughter, Irmã (Sister) Yolanda Maria Beltrão de Azevedo, both of whom are 92.

On 16th October 2025, following the sad passing of Ms. Bertoletto, Ms. Beltrao de Azevedo became the World's 6th-oldest validated living person. 

On 29th November 2025, following the sad passing of Ms. Gadyuchkina, Ms. Beltrao de Azevedo became the World's 5th-oldest validated living person.

Ms Beltrao de Azevedo is now the fourth oldest verified Brazilian person ever, having gone past both Maria Valentim and Izabel Rosa Pereira, in the past couple of days.

Yolanda was born in Coruripe in the state of Alagoas, on 13 January 1911, as the first of 15 children. She married in 1928 and had four children: Maria Isa Beltrão de Azevedo Cavalcanti, João Beltrão de Azevedo, Irmã (Sister) Yolanda Maria Beltrão de Azevedo (17 July 1933 – present), and José Beltrão de Azevedo. She was a devoted housewife who dedicated her life to caring for her family.

She has one living sister, Maria Salete Beltrão de Castro (15 March 1933), who is 92 years old.

When asked about the secret to her longevity, she shared that she ate a variety of foods but avoided passion fruit juice as it caused her stomach discomfort. A favorite pastime of hers thats she continues to do to this day is reading books.

On 24 September 2025, following the passing of 114-year-old Izabel Rosa Pereira, she became the nation’s oldest known living resident.
