As of today (16 Feb 2024) Juan Vicente Perez Mora has reached the age of 41,903 days, in his case 114 years and 265 days.

This surpasses the pending age of Horatio Celi Mendoza also at 114-265, but in his case 41,902 days.

As people will know, there are three major pending cases for men over the age of 114.00. What this means for JVPM is that even if all are now verified, he will still hold a place in the top five oldest verified men of all time.

After the sad death of Edie Ceccarelli, Juan Vicente Pérez Mora has become the fourth oldest living person.

When was the last time a man came in fourth place?

I assume it was Jiroemon Kimura sometime in 2011 or 2012.

Kane Tanaka (1903-2022) my favorite supercentenarian of all time.

As people will know Jiroemon Kimura was WOP - it appears for 177 days from 17 Dec 2012 until his passing on 12 June 2013.

A little before that Walter Breuning reached number 3 - behind Maria Valentim and Besse Cooper. This appears to have been from the death of Eunice Sanborn on 31 Jan 2011, until his passing on 14 April 2011. So that is still ahead of JVPM for now.

Others may have better memories than me but based on the timing of Maria Valentim's validation, I believe Walter was thought to be the number 2, for a time.

Otherwise (and since that time) no other  verified male has got really close to the top 10. The longest lived in this period was Yisrael Krystal but he seems to have got no higher than 14.

Obviously there were other cases earlier than this, including the likes of Yukichi Chugani and Emiliano Mercado del Toro, who were both WOPs this century.

It’s also worth noting that were the pending case of Horatio Celi Mendoza to be verified, in line with his current dates (3 Jan 1897 to 20 Sep 2011), then he would have reached number 3.

This would have been behind Bessie Cooper and Chiyono Hasegawa, it appears from the death of Venere Pizzinato on 2 August 2011 until his own passing.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

On August 2, 2011 with the death of Venere Pizzinato-Papo, the TOP 4 was like this:

Besse Cooper - 114

Chiyono Hasegawa - 114

Dina Manfredini - 114

Jiroemon Kimura - 114

That is, Jiroemon Kimura entered the TOP 4 at 114 years and 105 days, months later he rose to the TOP 3.

So it was the last time a man was in the TOP 4.

Kane Tanaka (1903-2022) my favorite supercentenarian of all time.

For the first time in recorded history, the oldest validated living person in Venezuela is older than that of the USA.

Today is a big milestone for Juan Vicente! He is now

- 114 years & 9 months old

- 114.75

- 114¾

And, not only that, he is officially in the Top 80 oldest people ever recorded!

By the way, I'm thinking about buying an edition of the Guinness World Records, does anyone know what edition he is in?

Moderator's note: Juan Vicente Pérez Mora is still 114 (therefore we can't speak of a "span between two 115 year old men" referring to Kimura and JVPM), and Anísio Rodrigues Alves is not (yet) fully validated.

I just realized, this has been the longest span of time since we've seen a validated 115 year old man...

Christian Mortensen - 1997

Emiliano Mercado del Toro - 2006

Anisio Rodrigues Alves - 2007

Jiroemon Kimura - 2012

Juan Vicente Pérez Mora - 2024

There are plenty of possible (but unlikely) candidates such as:

Sudhakar Chaturvedi - 2016

Djafar Behbahanian - 2017

Jose Flores Flores - 2022

Elias Chavez Alvarez - 2023

Januario Rubiano - 2023

But until they get validated, this (12 years & 38 days) has been the longest span between two 115 year old men. The shortest was just 1 year & 131 days, and was between Emiliano Mercado del Toro and Anisio Rodrigues Alves.

I wonder what Juan Vicente's vision is like. According to the LQ article, it was reported on his 112th birthday that he did not see clearly anymore and only distinguished lumps instead of people. Here in my country, visually impaired is considered 20/400 on the vision scale, and my own vision was measured in 2021 as close to 20/800. Thus, twice the criteria for being visually impaired, but it is not as bad as it might seem. The only part of everyday life that I cannot do is drive a vehicle. Going down stairs takes me a bit, as I cannot see the change in depth of the ground, and using the pay machine at grocery stores is a bit awkward as I have to get about 4 inches away to read the text, but I'm not blind. Cutting my toenails is also a challenge, as I have to bend my leg in a way where it is very close to my eyes. I wonder if Juan Vicente would take a vision test, whereabouts his vision would fall on the scale. I imagine his to be worse than mine.

Do you wear glasses?

@mrcatlord I do, but most of my vision loss comes from damaged sensory nerves, so the glasses only help a small bit. Also, because of damaged sensory nerves, I wear hearing aids, and no sense of smell.
