I visited Morera-Gifu Station today for the first time. A station located in Gifu prefecture, which having the same name as part of her name, Maria Branyas Morera.

And, for the record and information of all fans and researchers (just as Japanese forum and Wikipedia's spirit), provide the important link:

I wonder if she read my birthday message or not.

And Gifu's oldest person ever is currently living (Okagi Hayashi). Are you going to visit the city where she lives?

New photos of María with her favorite dog. The tweet says that the last time she saw the dog was in August, and she thought it would be the last time with the dog. But she is glad to be alive and to spend one more time with the dog.

María looks fantastic in the photos:

I think she may have even been one day older than Delphia at 117-66.

Either way Mrs Branyas Morera is well and truly in the top 10 now and not that far off 9th (health permitting).

Now all of the people in the top ten oldest ever except for Jeanne Calment, Sarah Knauss, and Marie-Louise Meilleur are consecutive WOPs.

A very interesting statistic Sonicbox.

In terms of consecutive WOPs I note Kama Chinen, Eugenie Blanchard, Ana de Lucas and Maria Valentino all passed away at 114.

From then, all of the next 14 WOPs have made it to 116, apart from Dina Manfredini.

And all of the past 7, have made it to 117.

Marie-Louise Meilleur, Jeanne Calment, and Sarah Knauss were consecutive WOPs of each other. So now all the people in the top ten oldest people ever are in one of two groups of consecutive WOPs.

As of today Mrs Branyas Morera moves level with the age of Emma Morano at 117-137 (42,872 days).

She is now the equal 8th oldest known person of all time and the equal 5th oldest person to have lived in the 21st century.

Might be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway: Any chance of an original birth and/or baptismal record ever being found for her? Since she was born in San Francisco, surely documentation from 1907 from there must exist somewhere, no?

(Not questioning her validation, BTW, in case that wasn't obvious. Just curious about the birth/baptismal record because there's a slight discrepancy over her birth date.)

Translated tweet from 15 August:

Today is the Assumption of Mary, Our Lady of August, feast in many towns and cities.
A few years ago, this date was a meeting day for the whole family to celebrate my saint. Now this is no longer possible and visits and congratulations will be spaced throughout the day. 👇

Sometimes the time marked on the calendar has nothing to do with the mental or emotional time I live inside. Sometimes I feel that I was born in the wrong era, because I have principles that have already been lost and I love values that are now in liquidation. But who cares about that?

As the longed-for Miquel Martí i Pol says in "Pensaments":
"This anxiety of now is also life,
the strangeness of a time that tires without filling;
this is also life to get lost in everything
not knowing very well which way to go"

New video of Carme. Since 2:20 she says that she met María Branyas:

Carme and María have many things in common: One was born in Olot and the other one lived and died in Olot, they met each other, some of their surnames sound and are similar (Noguera means walnut tree and Morera means mulberry)... And both have been supercentenarians!

PS: I have written the same comment in the 110 birthday topic of Carme Noguera, but I think I can write it here too.

https://www.elperiodico.com/es/sociedad/20250309/revelado-secreto-longevidad-maria-branyas-115056998

@futurist Unfortunately, the mediterranean diet is dissappearing due to globalization and fast food culture. Spain now is the european country with more obese children...

One can still make Mediterranean-style meals at home or go to Mediterranean-themed restaurants, no?

Here in the US, one can buy fruits, vegetables, hummus, and some other Mediterranean-style food such as falafel at local grocery stores, such as Costco, at least some of the time:

Biology of Healthy Aging: A 117-Year-Old Reveals Her Secrets

https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.02.24.639740v1

ABSTRACT

The indexed individual, from now on termed M116, was the world’s oldest verified living person from January 17th 2023 until her passing on August 19th 2024, reaching the age of 117 years and 168 days ( https://www.supercentenarian.com/records.html ). She was a Caucasian woman born on March 4th 1907 in San Francisco, USA, from Spanish parents and settled in Spain since she was 8. A timeline of her life events and her genealogical tree are shown in Supplementary Fig. 1a-b. Although centenarians are becoming more common in the demographics of human populations, the so-called supercentenarians (over 110 years old) are still a rarity. In Catalonia, the historic nation where M116 lived, the life-expectancy for women is 86 years, so she exceeded the average by more than 30 years ( https://www.idescat.cat ). In a similar manner to premature aging syndromes, such as Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria and Werner syndrome, which can provide relevant clues about the mechanisms of aging, the study of supercentenarians might also shed light on the pathways involved in lifespan. To unfold the biological properties exhibited by such a remarkable human being, we developed a comprehensive multiomics analysis of her genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic, proteomic, microbiomic and epigenomic landscapes in different tissues, as depicted in Fig. 1a, comparing the results with those observed in non-supercentenarian populations. The picture that emerges from our study shows that extremely advanced age and poor health are not intrinsically linked and that both processes can be distinguished and dissected at the molecular level.

@futurist I'm only saying that diet in Mediterranean Countries is worsening. But still, it is quite healthy. The problem is that young people tend to eat more fast food than some time ago.

But Mediterranean Countries still have a good diet, specially in comparison to countries like USA...
