João Felgueiras was born in Caldas das Taipas, Guimarães, Portugal, on June 9, 1921, and died on July 3, 2026, in Dili, East Timor, at the age of 105 years and 24 days.
He was a priest and had been in East Timor since 1971. He fought for the preservation of the Portuguese language in the region during the Indonesian occupation of the island, becoming a highly significant figure in the country.
He was the oldest known person in that country.
