Bernabé Córdoba Córdoba, the oldest (undisputed) living man in Costa Rica, is celebrating his 111th birthday today in Salitral (Santa Ana).
He was born in Bagaces, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, on 11 June 1915, to parents Antolin and Carolina Córdoba. As he was born on the Feast Day of St. Barnabas, his parents named him after the early Christian apostle. Growing up on a farm, he assisted his family in growing sugar cane, which he would grind in their sugar press. He was married to Ofelia Villegas Vargas, with whom he had two daughters: Zaida and Sara.
In 1976, at the age of 61, he moved with his family to Salitral, Santa Ana, San José, where he resides today.
Following the death of 110 year old Juan Gabriel Hernández Matamoros on 20 January 2024, he became the oldest documented and undisputed living man in Costa Rica.

Bernabé Córdoba, the oldest living man in Costa Rica, celebrated his 111th birthday in Salitral, San José Province, on 11 June.
Bernabé Córdoba was born in Liberia, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, on 11 June 1915, to a single mother Carolina Córdoba. He was orphaned at a young age, so he lived on a ranch as a day laborer, — he assisted his family in growing sugar cane, which he would grind in their sugar press. He worked for over 45 years for the Banana Company, caring for and transporting livestock for domestic consumption. He never married but had a partner Ofelia Vargas Valles, a cook for day laborers, with whom he had two daughters, Zaida and Sara.
In 1976, at the age of 61, he moved with his family to Salitral, Santa Ana, San José, where he resides today with his youngest daughter.
At the moment, he is the second-oldest known living person in Costa Rica, after Zoraida Montezuma, 112. He is also the second documented Costa Rican man to reach the age of 111, after Faustino Vargas Pérez (1896–2008).
