Clotilde Osorio Zafra, a resident of Oaxaca de Juárez City, Oaxaca, Mexico, celebrated her 110th birthday yesterday, as confirmed by her family.
Osorio Zafra was born in Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, Mexico, on 3 June 1916. She spent her childhood in the San Pedro neighborhood of Tlaxiaco. During the Mexican Revolution (1910–17), her family had to hide in the mountains to prevent her father from being recruited by the armed forces.
At the age of 25, she married Enrique Montes Palacios in September 1941, with whom she had six chidren. Her husband and she decided to start a business and dedicated themselves to the production of bread and the sale of groceries.
In 1963, they decided to move to the city of Oaxaca to get a better education for their children, they decided to begin a business again and installed the cafeteria of the Technical.
At 70 years old, she decided to lean towards sports and became an aerobics instructor and practiced walking, the latter being the sport she practiced until she was over 100 years old. She enjoys taking care of the plants and her little birds, which are free and come every day to feed at her house. When she is asked the secret to her long life, she answers: “sleep well and eat well.” Her grandson believed that “perhaps her biggest secret is that she has a good character, no one has seen her to get mad and she is always equanimous in the face of adversity”. One of her passions has been traveling. At 94 years old she traveled Europe.
On her 110th birthday, she enjoyed spending the day in the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, in an atmosphere of tranquility and joy. To conclude the celebration, the family gathered for dinner.
