When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."

Vitantonio Lovallo, the oldest living man in Italy, is celebrating his 112th birthday today in Avigliano, Basilicata.
Lovallo was born in a vineyard in the hamlet of Avigliano, on 28 March 1914. His first job was a shepherd, which he acquired aged 16. Later, until the onset of World War II, he worked cultivating land with wheat and corn.
During World War II, Lovallo fought on the front lines. He was in Bari, and was held prisoner in Corfu for a time. After the war’s end, he returned to his homeland and found employment as a muleteer. Lovallo married and had three children, two daughters and one son.
Following the death of Michele Cicora on 31 March 2024, Lovallo became Italy’s oldest living man. He is the first male from the region of Basilicata to attain supercentenarian status.
He is the third man in Italy to reach the age of 112, and the first to do so since December 2002, when Giovanni Frau turned 112.

Coincidentally, I spent the last few days in Naples. On 28 March, I looked at Mt. Vesuvius several times, and thought about Vitantonio's 112th birthday, taking place around 100 km behind the volcano. I'm so happy to see an Italian man turn 112 after Antonio Todde and Giovanni Frau. Best wishes to Sig. Lovallo!

Excuse me for asking, but why isn't it possible? Does the family not want him to receive visitors?
