When Margaret Romans turns 112 (in two hours as of this post), there will be no 111-year-olds in the country

There is now a gap of 18 months between 4th and 5th place (Romans and Wallin) while the top four are born within six months of each other. So this is kind of concerning, although there will be four people at 112

Sadly, Canada's eleventh-oldest person Margaret MacPhee, who was the oldest known person in Nova Scotia, died on the same day as Linda Yale. Nova Scotia's new doyenne may be Lillian Sigut born in May 1915, whose sister lived to 108

Lillian Sigut is actually not the oldest person in Nova Scotia, as Catherine MacPhee just came out of limbo on her 109th birthday after not being confirmed alive in three years

Curious that she have the same surname as your predecessor, Margaret MacPhee, any relation?

Margaret MacPhee's maiden name was Macleod, so I don't imagine that they'd be closely related.

Both are descended from settlers from the west of Scotland that settled in Canada in the early 1800s though. According to the 1931 census, Catherine MacPhee's first language is in fact Gaelic, and Margaret MacPhee was also able to speak at least some Gaelic. Pretty incredible, given that only a few thousand people can speak Canadian Gaelic.

The Canadian top ten is in a very interesting position right now. There are four 112-year-olds born within six months, then a massive gap of a year and a half, and then four 110-year-olds spread out in a very similar way. I.e. the top 4 were born in Sep, Nov, Feb, Mar and 5-8 were born in Oct, Dec, Feb, Mar. And with Linda Yale's death there are no 111-year-olds. I feel like there has to be someone in that gap, given that obituaries of previously unknown SCs in the country appear every few months

Here is an article on her 112th birthday. She survived COVID twice like Lillian Moran who died less than a week before her. I wonder how many unknown Canadian SCs there are currently living and if there is actually public information available if we look hard enough

Dorothy Thomas, the new person in tenth place (note that there is probably someone older), lives in the same care home what may be the oldest sibling pair in Canada, Marie/Maria Rosa (108) and Virginia del Brocco (101)

A more extensive article on Irene Lantz's life featured in this newsletter. She married her first husband, Mickey North, in 1936 and has one son named Morley who died in 1997. North died in 1986. She met her second husband Tony Lantz through dancing (kind of like Edie Ceccarelli). They married on 19 January 2002, which may be the latest date that any person who has become a supercentenarian so far has gotten married

She and Margaret Cameron have both been added to LQ's directory now (so I assume they may be under review?)
