Ed Martin of Florida Believed to Be America’s New Oldest Man

On 15 June, Luis Cano, the oldest living man in the United States whose age had been recognized by LongeviQuest, passed away in Linden, New Jersey, at the age of 111 years and 188 days. He became the nation’s oldest living man following the death of Eugene Baltes in December 2024, shortly after celebrating his 110th birthday. Cano was also the last known surviving American man born in 1914. With Cano’s passing, the question of who now holds the title of oldest living man in the United States remains unresolved.

The leading candidate to succeed him is Ed Martin of Lehigh Acres, Florida, who was just three months younger than Cano and celebrated his 111th birthday on 15 February. LongeviQuest is currently working to verify his status as the new oldest living man in the United States. His age was officially validated by LongeviQuest on 8 January 2025.

Martin was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on 15 February 1915. He joined the Baltimore County Fire Department in 1943 and spent his entire firefighting career at the Edgemere station. After retiring in 1964, he relocated to Florida, where he has lived ever since.

At present, Martin is the only known American man aged 111 or older. Several younger American men born in 1915 have also been documented and validated by LongeviQuest, including Chester Meros of Maryland (born 14 July 1915), Major Jewel McDonald of Mississippi (born 1 November 1915), and James Clayton Flowers of New Mexico (born 25 December 1915).
