Mr. Vidar Eide sadly passed away on 27 February 2024, aged 109 years and 239 days, in Kvam, Vestlandet, Norway.
He was born in Torvikbygd, Vestland, Norway on 3 July 1914, a few weeks before the beginning of World War I.
He became the oldest known living man in Norway, following the death of 105-year-old Alf Olsen on 14 March 2020.
He became the oldest known living person in Norway, following the death of 108-year-old Elsa Gundersen on 28 April 2022.
He was the Doyen of Norway and the 2nd Oldest Living Men in Nordic Countries (behind Mr. Westergaard) at the time of his death. He was also the 4th Oldest Men Ever lived in Norway behind Mr. Smith-Johannsen, Mr. Hovatn and Mr. Rustad.

He was the 12th oldest known living European man
He spent 3 years and 350 days as the oldest man in Norway, the longest time since Joergen Rustad who stayed between 6 Apr 2006 and 18 Apr 2010 (4 years and 12 days), who died at 109 years and 249 days, 10 days more than Eide, not since Rustad has a Norwegian man died at such an age. He was from Vestlandet, the last 3 oldest men in Norway are from there, including his predecessor and his successor, counting the 3 there are 19 men who were from there and were the oldest in the country.
As the oldest person in the country he stayed for 1 year and 305 days, since Marie Andersen no one has stayed as Dean of Norway for so long (she stayed from 27 Nov 2017 to 16 Feb 2020, 2 years and 81 days). ,since Gudrun Nymoen who died at 110 years, 256 days on 8 July 2021, a Norwegian person has not reached the age of Vidar Eide
18 people, including Eide and one of his successors (Margit Larsen) were from Vestlandet, the oldest person in Norway, the last person from there being Gunhild Lyse (from 8 July 2021 to 17 Apr 2022)
He was the 4th oldest man in Norwegian history, while his successor Odd Borlaug is 31, born on 31 Mar 1917
