Mrs Chiyo Taira (平良千代) of Haebaru, Okinawa, Japan, the oldest living person in the prefecture, died in hospital in Tomigusuku, Okinawa on 8 October 2026, aged 110. She was thus born between 16 September and 8 October 1916 (and I was wrong thinking she was born in November 1916).

May she rest in peace.

Source.

@straycat6368 Would you be able to discover her date of birth, now that we know her name? Thank you.

Overduidelijk misschien.

Rest in peace Ms. Taira.

@Marco
Well, this age is given according to the traditional East Asian age reckoning system; I believe the actual age was 109. (You need to be careful, as the obituary section in this newspaper uses a mix of "actual age" and "traditional Japanese age" to indicate the ages of the deceased.)
As before, based on documents released by Okinawa Prefecture over the past three years, it is reasonable to conclude that she was born in November 1916.
Hoping to find some kind of clue, I took a quick look through all the publicly available town newsletters (around 13 years...), but I didn't come up with anything. Of course, it’s possible that I’ve overlooked something, but...

When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."
