Ms. Ryō Maeda (前田良) of Miyakonojō City, Miyazaki Prefecture, who was oldest person in the Prefecture, has sadly passed away on May 6, 2026, at the age of 109 years, 43 days.
Ms. Maeda was born on March 24, 1917. On February 16, 2026, following the death of 111-years-old Ms. Harue Baba of Saito City she became the oldest living person in Miyazaki Prefecture. There has been no official announcement from Miyazaki Prefecture regarding the new oldest living person, but I will post it here as soon as it is announced.
Rest in peace Ms. Maeda.
supplement: This page states her age as 110, but this is ''the traditional Japanese age counting system'', so she was actually 109 years old.

R.I.P. Ms. Maeda.

When the young commander of the guard declared his love for her, she rejected him simply because his frivolity startled her. "See how simple he is," she told Amaranta. "He says that he’s dying because of me, as if I were a bad case of colic."

I found a blog that features a photo of Ms. Maeda celebrating her 109th birthday at the welfare facility where she used to live.
https://www.m-sj.or.jp/kirishima/%E3%80%90%E9%9C%A7%E5%B3%B6%E8%8D%98%E3%80%91%E7%9C%8C%E5%86%85%E6%9C%80%E9%AB%98%E9%BD%A2%E3%81%AE%E3%81%94%E5%88%A9%E7%94%A8%E8%80%85%E6%A7%98%E3%81%8C109%E6%AD%B3%E3%81%AE%E3%81%8A%E8%AA%95/

And today, Miyazaki Prefecture announced that following Ms. Maeda's death, the new oldest living person in the prefecture is 108-years-old Ms. Futsuno Andō (安藤フツノ) (b. 1918.2.9) of Kobayashi City.

She remained the oldest living person in Miyazaki for 79 days, the shortest time since we have records, surpassing Chiharu Oyama, who remained the oldest living person from December 26, 2013 to June 22, 2014 (178 days).
She is also the youngest person to die in that position; previously, Chiharu was also the youngest, at 109 years and 192 days.
She is the second person from Miyakonojō to be the oldest in the state, the first since Yone Kawabata, who died on August 19, 2023.
