Unfortunately, Angelina Torres, OLP in Spain, passed yesterday, 10 November, at 112 years. She was born on 18 March 1913.

The OLP and the OLM in Spain have died in less than two weeks.

Rest in peace.

Now the new doyenne and last survivor of 1913 is Teresa Fernández Casado.

Angelina Torres Vallbona, Spain’s Oldest Person, Dies at 112

Angelina Torres Vallbona, the oldest living person in Spain, passed away in Barcelona on 11 November, at the age of 112 years, 238 days.

Torres Vallbona was born in Bellvís, Lleida, Catalonia, on 18 March 1913, and was one of eight siblings. After her father’s accidental death when she was three, her family moved to Barcelona, where her mother began working. Torres attended a convent school and later apprenticed at a shoe store as a tie maker, earning six pesetas for every 12 ties. Encouraged by her mother to learn sewing, she also trained at a dressmaker’s shop, gaining valuable skills despite low pay.

She later worked at Bragulat. During the Spanish Civil War, she met her future husband, Josep, who served for six years. They married in 1942 and had a daughter, Mercè. Financial struggles led them to live with her in-laws. Widowed at 61, Torres continued living independently in a small Barcelona apartment until a femur injury prompted her daughter to move in with her.

On 28 January 2025, following the passing of 113-year-old Juliana Teodora Artola Ondara, Torres Vallbona became the oldest living person in Spain.

@diego Good review, but Angelina was not from San Sebastián. The one from San Sebastián was her predecessor Juliana Artola.

Thank you very much for pointing that out. I was actually thinking of Juliana when I wrote San Sebastian and ended up getting confused.
I have corrected the post and apologise for the mistake.
