American Supercentenarian Virginia Bell Dies at 111

Virginia Estelle Bell, the oldest living person in the U.S. state of Virginia, passed away on 13 November, at the age of 111.

Bell was born Virginia Estelle Phillips in North View, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, on 29 January 1914. She was a devout member of North View Baptist Church and received education up to the seventh grade. On 28 November 1934, she married Henry Wilbur Bell, and together they raised four children (two sons and two daughters).

Living off their own land, the Bell family cultivated tobacco and various food crops. Virginia dedicated herself to homemaking, tending her flower garden, and caring for the lawn. She prepared meals for her family using a wood stove, with favorites such as coconut pies and fried chicken.

Following her husband’s passing in 1997, she remained independent until the age of 100, when she decided to move to an assisted living facility in South Hill.

Yes, there really is this discrepancy regarding her birth date. GRG claims she was born on January 29, 1913. I know it's controversial, but I don't know what documents they have to confirm that date.

I added an update to the post, including the information in case she was born in 1914.

@diego There is insufficient evidence to support 1913 as an upgraded year of birth; indeed there are strong reasons to believe she was in fact born in 1914.
