Ms. Maria da Conceição Brito, the oldest living person in Portugal, sadly passed away today at the age of 113 years and 234 days.
She was the third-oldest person in the history of Portugal.
Maria da Conceição, considered the oldest person in Portugal, passed away in the early hours of this Saturday at the age of 113. The elderly woman had been a resident of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de São Brás de Alportel for 15 years, and the institution expressed its condolences in a statement. "Our beloved resident passed away peacefully this morning, leaving deep sorrow among all the residents and staff who cared for you at 113 years and eight months of age," the institution said. Maria da Conceição was the oldest person in Portugal for approximately three years, from August 20, 2023, until her death on August 22, 2026.
Nicknamed 'Queen' and 'Little Aunt', Maria da Conceição was born on December 22, 1912, two years before the official creation of the municipality of São Brás de Alportel, where she always lived.

Maria da Conceição de Brito, the oldest living person in Portugal, passed away today in São Brás de Alportel, Faro District, at the age of 113 years, 234 days, according to Correio da Manhã.
Maria da Conceição de Brito was born in São Romão, Faro District, Portugal, on 31 December 1912 (claimed 22 December). She worked in the agriculture industry from a young age, picking carob, olives, and broad beans. She was married and had at least one son, Rogerio.
Living independently until she was 99, Da Conceição de Brito was reported to be mentally very sharp as a centenarian by nursing home staff. She tripped and fell aged 106, but got straight back up and suffered no injury. At 107, she only used a walker and attended Mass monthly.
Following the death of Inácia Carmelino on 20 August 2023, Da Conceição de Brito became Portugal’s oldest known resident. However, Carmelino’s age has not been validated.
