Yesterday, Hiroshima Prefecture announced that the oldest residents in the prefecture had passed away in quick succession.
First, Ms. Misao Kobayashi (小林貞) of Nishi Ward, Hiroshima City, has sadly passed away June 19, 2026, at the age of 112 years, 235 days.
She was born She was born on October 27, 1913. Following the passing of Ms. Hisayo Nobuyasu in early 2024, Kobayashi became the oldest living person in Hiroshima Prefecture. Upon her own passing in June 2026, she was succeeded by 111-years-old Ms. Kaoru Kodera (小寺カヲル) (b. 1914.11.25) of Fukuyama City.

Regarding her status as the oldest living person in Hiroshima:
Duration: She was the oldest living person in Hiroshima from around January 9, 2024—a tenure of approximately 2 years and 276 days, the longest documented period; the previous record-holder was Tokie Nakayama, who held the title from April 27, 2023, to September 16, 2023 (1 year, 142 days).
Age: She died at the age of 112 years and 235 days—the oldest since Itsuka Oshimo, who died at 112 years and 253 days on August 22, 2021.
Location: She was the first person from Sera to be considered the oldest person in Hiroshima.
