Mrs. Faustina Sarmiento Pupo was born in Sao Arriba, Holguin, Cuba on 15 February 1905. Her father, Gonzalo Sarmiento, was a veteran of the Cuban War of Independence (1895–1898), the last liberation war Cuba fought against Spain. She married at the age of 17, and had five daughters (one died at 86, two are alive at the ages 88 and 98), two children's status are unknown.
She was the 6th-oldest living person in the world at the time of her death and she's the oldest-validated person ever from Cuba.
She died on 16 September 2019 at the age 114 years, 213 days.
