PS The difficult numbering or ordering of the people is not a criticism of the previous lists, but only concerns my own presentation. For the anonymous individuals, we only know their year of birth and not the exact dates.

One could list the exact dates consecutively, with the anonymous individuals included as an additional entry.

PPS 28 June 2026 was one of the hottest days in 2026 in Austria. In my hometown were 37 degrees.

Herbert Colledani, Austria’s Oldest Man, Dies at 107

Herbert Colledani, the oldest living man in Austria, passed away in Hermagor-Pressegger See, Carinthia, on 8 September, at the age of 107 years, 148 days.

Herbert Colledani was born in Kötschach-Mauthen, Carinthia, Austria, on 13 April 1919. Raised by his grandparents, Colledani decided to become a weaver and began an apprenticeship at the Pichler weaving mill in the Gitschtal Valley. However, at the age of 21, his life took a dramatic turn when he was drafted into military service during World War II.

Between 1940 and 1945, he was deployed to Russia, where hunger, wounded comrades, and death became his constant companions. Colledani himself was also wounded. After being shot in the foot, he was taken to a military hospital toward the end of the war and subsequently became an American prisoner of war in Germany. He eventually escaped from captivity and set off on foot for his home in Carinthia. More than 1,000 kilometers lay between Westphalia and the Gitschtal Valley. At the end of June 1945, he finally reached his homeland.

Following the difficult war years, a completely new chapter of his life began. In 1946, he married his wife, Anna. The couple remained married for 76 years and had three children. Colledani went on to make a name for himself professionally in Hermagor. As a master weaver, he ran his own weaving mill and became well known far beyond the town.

On 28 June 2026, following the passing of 107-year-old Josef Peham, he became the oldest living man in Austria. It is believed that Josef Winkler (born 24 July 1919) now holds the title following Colledani’s passing.

• He was Austria's oldest living man starting April 17, 2026 (holding the title for 72 days).
• He died at the age of 107 years and 142 days—the youngest age at which an Austrian man held the title of oldest living man since Anton Kronberger, who died on June 14, 2020, at 106 years and 289 days.
• He was the sixth man from Upper Austria to be considered the oldest living man in the country, and the first since Josef Pux, who died on June 19, 2017.

• Herbert Colledani is the 11th oldest man in Austrian history; his successor, Josef Winkler, is the 13th.
• He held the title of the country's oldest man for the same duration as his predecessor—72 days—which is the shortest tenure since Anton Kronberger (who held it for 11 days, from June 3, 2020, to June 14, 2020).
• He died at the age of 107 years and 148 days (6 days older than his predecessor).
• He is the third man from Carinthia to be considered the oldest living man in Austria, and the first since Franz Peter Winkler, who died on February 1, 2016.
