Not sure why the GRG went with a wrong surname for Mrs Vergelas-Tamarin, or why this misidentified Mr Wolding's middle name as "Olanda" (which it is not).

Michalina Wasilewska, POL, 21 Dec 1898 - 3 Jan 2010, 111 years and 13 days.

I've noticed the GRG skipped the validation slot of 1 May 2016; turns out they've got Maria Santa Butera in there twice - once for 5 Jan 2016 (when she was indeed validated) and once for 1 May 2016. That explains the weird jump in slots!

It’s fantastic news about Ida Stewart as her case has been around for a very long time.

One wonders if some new data or documents turned up to push this case over the line.

She was validated in 2016, apparentally

Retroactive: "taking effect from a date in the past"

Does this make sense with age validation?

There are greater authorities on this forum than me on this topic Mr Catlord….

But none of this 7-8 year gap in validation dates makes any sense whatsoever to me.🤪

Ida Stewart wlll basically go down as “a twin” with Maria Redaelli, being the two ladies who passed away the day before their 114th birthday.

I don’t know much about Ida, but certainly Maria’s passing at that time was quite a shock given her apparent health (despite a recent fall, if I recall correctly)

@marco I'm not even going to bother looking at the validation credits. Also, interesting that these validations are happening now that LQ also validates historical claims. Only difference is that one organization uses fictional validation dates.

Well, "competition" (I don't think validating SCs is really any form of competition) is good for "business" (read: activity) it seems. Also note how the GRG has suddenly revamped its website, mimicking what LQ and ESO do (with lengthier biographies, a world map with clickable buttons, you name it). I guess I should say it's good to see that the GRG has finally found a second gear.

As for validations, here's another recently announced validation that was retroactively accepted (on 3 June 2016):

Georgia Cooper, USA, 19 Oct 1882 - 6 Oct 1995, 112 years and 352 days.

Recently announced validations + one recent validation:

Emma Galode, CAN, 22 Aug 1882 - 9 Sept 1994, 112 years and 18 days.

Nels Berger, NOR/USA, 20 Oct 1885 - 22 Sept 1996, 110 years and 338 days.

Sara Camarena, MEX/USA, 16 July 1891??? - 20 June 2005, 113??? years and 339 days. *

Henrietta Bruce, BRB, 18 July 1891 - 21 July 2001, 110 years and 3 days.

Emma Jefferies, USA, 11 Aug 1899 - 20 Aug 2011, 112 years and 9 days.

Hilda Clulow, UK, 15 Mar 1908 - 24 Dec 2019, 111 years and 284 days.

Florence Sutton, UK, 20 Mar 1909 - 29 Jan 2020, 110 years and 315 days.

Maud Nicholl, UK, 3 July 1909 - 19 Sept 2019, 110 years and 78 days.

* The following is from the announcement of this particular validation, the most interesting part of which has been highlighted in bold:

The Gerontology Research Group is excited to announce the validation of Secundina Camarena, nee Nieves, known as Sara. Sara was born in San Jose, Tayahua, Zacatecas, Mexico, on July 16th 1891 (claimed 1904) to Victoriano and Tomasa Nieves, baptised 12 days later on the 28th.
Interestingly, when Sara married Gregoriao Camarena on June 1st 1921, Sara started to understate her age. We believe this was possibly because her husband was 9 years her junior, being born in 1900, she wanted to avoid social stigma from this. Also, going on to have children, this would help keep the appearance of not being an ‘older mother’ which can be frowned upon in some cultures. Whilst this cannot be confirmed, as such, this seems the most likely reason. They had at least eight children together.
In 1928, Sara moved to the US, settling in Fresno, Fresno County, California. Sara was sadly widowed in 2001, when Gregorio passed away at age 100. They had been married for 80 years. Sara continued to live in Fresno after her husband’s death, until her own death on June 20th 2005, aged 113 years, 339 days. She was just 26 days from her 114th birthday.
Whilst this lady’s case was never a publicly known one, we have the Social Security Administration Study to thank for her validation. Initially, some years ago, this case had been added to our ‘debunked’ list based on her obituary claim of being ‘only’ 100 years of age at death. However, on re-examination last year, it was discovered through evidence gathered, that she was indeed the age claimed on her Social Security correspondence. Therefore, Sara was verified by myself and the SSA study and accepted as validated by the GRG on January 8th 2024.

Unreliable validations, at this point. I have stopped to consider them as real validations

I am familiar with Camarena's case. I think that there's certainly a reasonable chance of her being 113, but it's far too murky to consider her validated at the moment, in my opinion. This validation is a bit hasty and I believe more evidence needs to be gathered, such as a family tree reconstruction.

Recently announced validations, retroactively accepted in June 2016:

Anna Traxler, UK/USA, 12 Dec 1892??? - 21 Apr 2003, 110 years and 130??? days *

* Please note that the ESO has validated Anna Traxler as born on 4 Jan 1893, based on the original birth certificate.

There are at least ten documents available for Anna Traxler between 1893 and 1940, including a birth certificate, and none of these documents support a birthdate in December 1892. The only documents supporting the December 1892 birthdate appear to be her Social Security Application and her SSDI, the earliest of which was created in October 1973 when Anna Traxler would have been 80 years old. Interesting to see the GRG has ignored the birth certificate and adopted an 80 year window for proof of birth.

Also, their commentary says she had at least one child, but the 1930 and 1940 censuses both clearly show she had at least two children (admittedly a far more minor issue than the date of birth error, to be fair).
