These validations should put total validated numbers back to roughly where we were on 31 December, before the usual heavy January losses commenced.Β

These supercentenarians had already previously been validated by LQ (Patterson) and by the ESO (Demorgny), so they were already appearing on the list of validated SCs. πŸ™‚

There is no publicly available information on her maiden name and parents' names, and they only validated her due to my research, which involved me scouring census records and newspaper articles to locate. It's hilarious to see Oliver take credit for "validating" her case when all he did was read my post to get the necessary information.

Also, I'm pretty sure of all of their bios and photos on the GRG website are directly copied from the gerontology wiki

Recently announced validations, retroactively accepted in August and September 2016:

Theophilus May, UK, 5 Jan 1861 - 2 Dec 1971, 110 years and 331 days. (Already validated by the ESO. Please note that the original baptismal record does not state of date of birth, and that an original birth certificate does not exist, so his date of birth cannot be validated with the highest degree of certainty.)

Henry Hannah, USA, 13 Mar 1868 - 7 May 1978, 110 years and 55 days.

Esther Mitchener, USA, 17 Aug 1871 - 13 Apr 1983, 111 years and 239 days. (Already validated by LQ.)

Bertie Thierry, USA, 22 Apr 1880 - 8 Feb 1992, 111 years and 292 days.

Luella Sanford, CAN, 18 May 1889 - 15 June 2000, 111 years and 28 days.

Darthular Garner, USA, 31 July 1890 - 8 Mar 2002, 111 years and 220 days. *

Clara Sutton, USA, 14 Mar 1901 - 26 Aug 2012, 111 years and 165 days.

Katie Reed, USA, 20 Jan 1902 - 15 Oct 2013, 111 years and 268 days.

Β

* Please note the GRG has gone for a 3 July 1890 DOB, based on the SSA and SSDI listing. However, these records have, in general, been proven to be notoriously unreliable - and a "1" (from 31 to 3) could easily have gone unnoticed. In addition, both records were issued more than 75 years after Mrs Garner's birth, whereas her gravestone specifically shows a 31 July birthdate. Finally, the GRG has always gone for the most conservative option, so I am not sure why the GRG has opted for a different approach here.

They must have surely known that the true birth date had already been discovered and verified elsewhere? Are they trying so hard to pretend no other organisation or researchers exist that they're willing to knowingly verify an individual with a wrong birth date and then 'discover' it is wrong themselves weeks later?

Recent validations, accepted on 13 and 14 February 2024:

Santos Fierro, MEX/USA, 22 July 1913 - Present, 110+ years. (Already validated by LQ.)

Rosina Caulkett, UK, 13 Nov 1913 - Present, 110+ years. (Already validated by the ESO and recognised by LQ.)

Β

Recently announced validations, retroactively accepted on 22 and 28 October 2016:

Gertrude Gilham, CAN, 14 July 1886 - 3 Oct 1996, 110 years and 81 days.

Rose Bicknell, UK, 31??? July 1903 - 8 Sept 2013, 110 years and 57??? days.

Β

Note how according to the GRG, Rose Bicknell was born on 31 July 1903 (wrong!) and died on 8 September 2013 at an age of 110 years and 57 days (which doesn't match a 31 July DOB). Also note, for convenience's sake, that lately they've been adjusting acceptance dates for previously validated cases, such as the one for Lucile Randon (who was validated on 26 October 2016, NOT 25 - but 25 matches the 3-day rhythm in which cases were "validated" at the time (even though these dates were just randomly assigned in 2024). Hypocritically, one date that hasn't been changed is Olive Boar's acceptance date, because at the time living SCs were not validated under the age of 112 (even though, retroactively, the GRG has now been validating SCs who were alive at the time but under the age of 112, such as Marion Hunter).

There's so much to say about this, but why even bother? I reckon Robert is fuming about the way the GRG is currently being run.

And watch Rose Bicknell's age magically being corrected once they've read this post.

Are they trying so hard to pretend no other organisation or researchers exist that they're willing to knowingly verify an individual with a wrong birth date and then 'discover' it is wrong themselves weeks later?Β

Of course they've known. How do you think they've gained information on many cases they didn't know about before? (The Gerontology Wiki, for instance, suddenly displays the correct information for Leola Porter - such as full name, maiden name, state and date of birth, and correct date of death - even though this information is only shown on LongeviQuest's biographical page for her; so expect Leola Porter to be validated by the GRG too, in the future, even though they needed LongeviQuest to help them out - because it is a current GRG correspondent/shadow admin who's added this info to Mrs Porter's profile page.)

Also note, for instance, that they've now turned Rosa Micaela Puertas pending with a wrong year of birth, based on wrongly found information by them.

This deliberate move, spreading false information without proof (called 'assertion,' a propaganda technique, is an often-employed tactic that's been well-utilised before, such as by Donald Trump - deny something or someone exists for a long enough period of time, or play dirty ("Crooked Hillary"), and repeat it often enough and people will eventually believe you. The other day I read a comment from a user on the 110 Club that said LongeviQuest was only better at validating Japanese cases, even though over here [the GSF] we have often pointed out the mistakes that the GRG has been making for the past couple of months / since Robert's stepping down. It's not just Japanese cases that LQ is much more reliable at.

Moreover, because of the GRG's rule over the Gerontology Wiki they can get away with a LOT, because there's no other Wiki currently large enough to be a serious contender (and most people unfortunately turn to a Wiki for reference, rather than to a credible source). And just look at the censorship they're committing; it's baffling and mind-boggling, most of the time.

I know they're mostly acting out of spite and will probably say "but look at the others" when we point at their misdoings (because they still erroneously, obstinately and willfully blindly believe we [LQ/the ESO/GRG correspondents and admins who understandably left a badly managed GRG] are guilty of whatever they have libelously accused us of - another smart move on their part), but they're not seeing that this coordinated, plotted, and schemed management will ultimately be detrimental to their own reputation. They're validating people with wrong dates of birth, they're validating incomplete cases, they're validating SCs with retroactive dates so they can claim they were the first ones... basically, they're rushing now because of their desire to stay relevant. But at what cost?

@marco They are becoming ridiculous. And the person who is validating the SCs in such an approximate way isn't even entirely to blame: he can't even understand the mess he's ended up in.

Very well said, @marco and @ale76

While the SCs they're validating are (mostly) true/correct, I just can't take them seriously anymore. Look at Sara Camarena!

And notice how Waclaw's back to being inactive on the GW now that he's succeeded in his censorship of LQ, ESO etc. I've been both amused and disappointed watching him, Dejan, and BrianTimmy drive the GW into the ground. Dejan told another GW user recently to "smoke a ****" and said he would leave the wiki for good. He's still there, removing harmless content and acting like nothing happened, and of course Waclaw hasn't kicked him out of the GRG or at least revoked his moderator status. That speaks volumes.

Under Robert's leadership, the GRG was apocalyptically slow, but there were little to no mistakes. Now they've sped up, but mistakes are being made constantly. It seems to me that Ollie has been shoehorned into a position he is not cut out for. I believe that he has no malicious intent, he just lacks experience and it shows. Either that or he's just following Waclaw's orders.

I'm surprised they haven't addressed our addressing of their errors on the WSF. "The GRG is a non-profit scientific organisation that has been operating for 34 years, our cases are meticulously verified and examined by a team of dedicated correspondents. No mistakes are present in validated cases." That's what I imagine Waclaw would say.
