Ms. Viorica Hogaș of Suceava, Romania sadly passed away on November 25, 2023 at the age of 108 years old.
She was the oldest living woman in Romania (the oldest living person is Mr. Ciocan).
Rest in peace, Ms. Hogaș.

The oldest known Romanian woman would now be Noja Paladia, born on 20 July 1915 in Alba?
RIP Viorica
While "only" 106, I still must mention Julianna Kolumbán (b. 26 February 1918), who's the oldest known living Székely (subgroup of Hungarians living mainly in Transylvania) person.
She's been quite popular in Hungarian social media for years.
Best wishes to her!

For a man to survive a fall at age 111 is pretty impressive!

@diego He wasn’t the 6th oldest living man in Romania. He was the the third after Ilie Ciocan and Iosif Rus.
Interested in supercentenarians since 2017.
Favourite supercentenarian: Kane Tanaka (1903-2022)
Favourite living supercentenarian: Juan Vicente Perez Mora (born 1909)
@livinnho Exactly, I didn't count on Elena Herghelegiu, who was added later to the list.
Oldest living men in Romania
As of 7 November 2024:
P.S. The first 4 men were born before Romania switched to the new calendar (1 April 1919), so they were born 13 days later.
@livinnho wouldn't Iosif Rus be an exception as he was born in Austria-Hungary?

@livinnho You could specify the nation where they were born (when the nation, nowadays, is different from present-day Romania).

@ale76 I think all of them were born within present-day Romanian borders.
Iosif Rus was born in Gherla (Szamosújvár/Neuschloss) when it was still part of Austria-Hungary, which had obviously used the Gregorian calendar for centuries prior.
Ioan Beldi and Alexandru Găncean were de jure also born in Austria-Hungary (as the Treaty of Trianon set the new borders officially on 4 June 1920), although they were already born under de facto Romanian administration (which began in Transylvania in December 1918 – January 1919).

So... All the men were born in the counties where they currently live, except Ioan Beldi, born in Sibiu.
All were born in present-day Romania, except Iosif Rus, born in Austria-Hungary (7 of the men were born in the Kingdom of Romania, and 2 in Transylvania).
Currently, the only men born according to the old rite are Ilie Ciocan, Ion Banu and Dumitru Din.
However, Iosif Rus was born in Țaga, not in Gherla.
Does anyone know in which county Dumitru Curta was born?
