I wonder if she has any memories of Austria-Hungary. Theoretically possible, I guess, since Austria-Hungary collapsed in November 1918, when she was two years and around three months old. Maybe 50% odds or a bit less?

Marija Žekš died at 109 years and 225 days old.
The article doesn't say when she died, but considering she was born on August 12, 1916, and it says she died at 109 years and 225 days old, she must have died on March 25, 2026.
She was the oldest living person in Slovenia for 1 year and 246 days, the shortest time since Matilda Serec (March 31, 2018 - March 7, 2019, 341 days). She died at 109 years and 136 days old. Marija managed to surpass that age, but she is the youngest person to die as the oldest living person in Slovenia since her.
She is the second person from Mura to be considered the oldest in Slovenia, coincidentally the first since Matilda Serec.
Her successor as the oldest person in Slovenia is Amalija Mohorčič from Lower Sava, born on the 23rd. Apr 1918

Amalija Mohorčič, the oldest living person in Slovenia, celebrated her 108th birthday in Slovenska Vas, Brežice, on 23 April, according to the Municipality of Brežice.
Amalija Mohorčič was born Amalija Tomše in the settlement of Ponikve in the Municipality of Brežice in eastern Slovenia, close to the border with Croatia, on 23 April 1918. She attended primary school in Velika Dolina and helped her parents in the vineyard and fields.
In 1939, she married Jože Mohorčič, and they had a daughter, Marija. During World War II, she lost both her father and her husband, who died in Knin, Croatia, in 1944. She later married her second husband, Franc, who was her first husband’s brother. In 1949, their son Slavko was born, and they remained together until his death in 1991.
She stayed remarkably active throughout her life. Until the age of 95, she rode her bicycle to run all her errands. At 100, she was still tying up the vineyard, transplanting lettuce in the garden, and keeping her home in order. Today, she has two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
On 25 March 2026, following the passing of 109-year-old Marija Žekš, she became the nation’s oldest living resident. Coincidentally, she was born on the same day as Hilda Hećej, the oldest resident of neighboring Croatia.
