The oldest living Olympic champion, Nikita Simonyan sadly passed away on 23 November 2025, at the age of 99, just three weeks after he gained the title upon Charles Coste's death. Nikita was born into a family of Armenian descent on 12 October 1926. He won a gold medal with the Soviet football team at the 1956 Melbourne Games.

May he rest in peace.

The new titleholder is Gábor Benedek (b. 23 March 1927) of Hungary, who won gold and silver in the modern pentathlon at the 1952 Helsinki Games.

Hungary began the year holding this record with Agnes Keleti, who was the oldest living Olympic athlete, as well as the oldest medalist and gold medalist, and could end the year with the oldest Olympic gold medalist.
